Very quiet day,  and one of torrential rain. It was so bad I stripped the bed, washed and dried the sheets and cleaned the apartment. I had thought about going to the warehouse for a coat but as it was raining and I didn't have a coat I decided against it. Also i had to wait for my food shopping to be delivered. I ordered it last night and was really impressed to get a next day delivery slot for $7 between 1300hrs and 1500hrs. What impressed me the most was I could change the order up until midday.

Like most online grocery shopping it was straightforward enough, although I did have to search really hard for a couple of the things I wanted as they were under a different name to what i’d call them at home, like cook in sauces, capsicums instead of peppers, cookies instead of biscuits. No major drama but amusing nevertheless. I received a phone call from the New World supermarket around1300 hrs because the mince I had ordered was out of stock so they wanted to know if it was ok to substitute it with a different one. Unfortunately what they replaced it with was twice the price, and wasn't even organic! Unbelievably the organic mince is cheaper than non organic. How does that work?

The reason for doing a bulk shop was so I can batch cook a load of meals for Morg and I for the days that I am in the unit in Kohimarma. There is no hob there so a little bit of forward thinking was required. I'm planning to cook up easy one pot meals that I can freeze and put in the freezer and then cook in the microwave for dinner.  It was delivered an hour after I received the phone call about the mince which really impressed me. A few things were out of stock, like the mixed beans and meatballs, and as is standard for me, I may have over ordered  a few things … like mince, tomatoes and onions. Definitely over ordered the onions. By about a kg. Insert one huge eyeroll here. I'm sure I'll use it all eventually.

Finding somewhere to put all the food was a challenge, but I managed to cram it in the single cupboard that was available. Once the tinned stuff was away, I started chopping onions and garlic ready to cook up, bloody hell I'd forgotten how time consuming that little chore is, it's one of the jobs Si claimed as his, in fact he used to do all the chopping for me. I also realised why he did it too, ive got to get me an electric veg chopper or new food processor when I get home if I'm going to continue in this Delia Smith vein.

Once they were all chopped i threw them in the large plug in fry pan and cooked them shortly followed by the mince. Definitely over ordered. I could probably have made do with half the amount of mince. Twat. however I now have enough bolognaise base to last a month. Tomorrow I will add various bits to it and create slightly different varieties and then freeze. I am a goddamn genius. Fact.

Morg arrived for dinner and strangely we didn't have anything mince based. Instead I cooked a nice chicken dinner complete with gravy. Perfect for a wet and windy day. Very grateful for that little air fryer that cooks everything! I am seriously impressed with this little apartments facilities. The only complaint I have is that there isn’t enough counter space. A tiny metre length isn't enough room at all for a messy cook like myself. I need a lot of room to unleash my particular type of chaos…

After dinner we washed up because i need the space to make more meals up and then morg went home. A productive kind of day.

Much Love
